THE POWER OF SOFT SKILLS TO GROW IN THE COMPANY
Soft Skills have been underestimated for a long time, however now Soft Skills training is one of the most demanded by companies. Employee knowledge has always been considered the key to business success. Obviously this is true, without learning and knowledge we cannot achieve our goals, the question is how do we want to reach them? Do we want to reach or excel?
For some years now, companies have been placing greater value on employees’ skills, thanks to which they manage teams better or worse. Whether or not there is a good working environment, whether they act jointly or individually… A happy and valued team is equivalent to better results. Thanks to this, it became clear that not only was a person’s knowledge necessary (hard skills), but that the innate soft skills of each individual played a major role.
Soft skills range from the ability to empathise with a person who is in a delicate moment, to taking the blame for a mistake made by a person in your team. How is this possible? I’ll explain it to you below.
Essential soft skills in business
These are the Soft Skills needed both for employees to grow within the company and to improve the company’s performance.
Coaching
Coaching is a team training either jointly or individually. It is a process of self-knowledge where the coach helps the coachee (person receiving the coaching), to generate a change in his/her life and achieve his/her objectives. It is a methodology used to achieve an objective in the company that has not been achieved through other means. There are about twelve types of coaching. The ones that we care about are the business coaching ( aimed at organisations and companies to deal with productivity issues, relationships between employees, time management…) and the executive coaching ( aimed at top management in the company with the intention of improving leadership and both management and communication skills of these).
One of the most widespread techniques of corporate coaching is Active Listening, learning to listen to others in a conscious way in order to understand people more thoroughly, so that conversations can be more productive and problem management more effective. Generating empathy and emotional connection, team motivation, constructive feedback, recognition… are the techniques to be developed by employees and managers in a corporate coaching training.
Assertiveness
Assertiveness is the ability to communicate correctly, it seems easy but not everyone is able to express their thoughts correctly without generating a conflict situation. Assertiveness training allows you to communicate what you really think about a topic in a way that others can understand, while maintaining a correct and polite posture. We could define it as the ability to get angry well.
In the assertive communication style, the subject defends his own rights from respect, mediates for his interests and always tries to reach a point that benefits both parties.
“Assertive people show confidence in themselves and are respected by others. “
Leadership
Today it is more essential than ever in companies, good leaders manifest themselves in difficult situations or those that generate anxiety among employees, this year you have surely discovered if there are good leaders in your company. There are four types of leadership, from the most basic to the most complete, and today I’m going to explain these two to you:
- Transactional leadership: a transactional leader is one who works with “reward or punishment”, i.e. if his or her employees reach the objectives they are rewarded, but if they don’t (for whatever reason) they are punished. This is effective leadership for short-term results as it is based on fear, but does not take people into account.
- Transformational leadership: a transformational leader is one who looks after the well-being of his or her employees, is one of the team, motivates the workers and collaborates to reach the objectives together. He not only values and appreciates the work of others but motivates and inspires them to go beyond the objectives.
